NaNoWriMo challenges 2012

I'm trying to be a more enthusiastic admin, so brace yourselves for incoming exclamation marks. After all, nothing says 'enthusiastic' like a dozen exclamation marks after a sentence.

Anyway, my quest to be more enthusiastic has actually led me to the following announcement: there will be NaNoWriMo activities on Arrow of Eloquence throughout November. There will probably even be a few lead-up activities during October to help everyone get into the NaNo groove.

First of all, a blogging challenge. I'm feeling flexible, so there's exactly one rule for this challenge: you have to post 30 times during November. It helps to average it out to somewhere close to one post per day, but that's optional. Also, you can blog anything you like, from comments about your NaNo progress to pictures of your cat. Like I said, the only rule is that by the end of NaNo you have to have 30 posts.

Second, daily wordcount challenges. These are going to follow a general theme like 'start at midnight' or 'beat yesterday's total'. I have a whole list of these hidden away in the staff room and I'm going to post a new one every day of NaNo.

Third, daily writing prompts. If I can find them, anyway. I'll try to dig up a list that's going to help keep our stories on track rather than just "suddenly ninjas attacked".

Fourth, a motivational thread. Yes, this really is a challenge. On an average day I'm about as motivational as an electroshock keyboard, so I really hope everyone is going to get involved in this challenge. The idea is that every day we visit the site to see the latest challenge, find out how everyone else is doing etc. and we also post something in the motivational thread. Quotes, pictures, songs about neon pegasus... the kind of thing that's going to remind people that NaNo is an insane but fun adventure.


Edit: oh, and I'm also going to create a 'NaNo-Land' board so we can do all this in a central location.

Oooh, all of those sound good. I'm definitely going to try the blogging one. Do you need any help tracking down writing prompts? (If so, what kind are you looking for?)

We definitely need a place for all our NaNomongering.

Okay, I now have a list of 150 prompts gleaned from the Nano 'reaching 50k' section. I'll put up 5 per day and anyone else is welcome to add their own.

The blogging challenge is already up, so now I just need to think of 10 more daily wordcount challenges and start the motivational thread. NaNo preparation is coming along nicely.

Hey, Siana, that sounds really good to me. I'll be trying the blogging one, assuming I can get my blog to actually work again. It's been down, and I haven't had the mental energy to try and figure out what's going on with it.

I'll also be trying the word count goals as well.

I know it's been awhile since I last checked in here as well as PlotMo. Between pain and depression, I just haven't felt up to creating. Instead, I've been very naughty and was spending most of my time playing WoW (World of Warcraft to those who don't know what WoW is). Since the new addition of Mists of Pandera (sp), I've been building up new characters and killing at will. It seemed to help with my depression at least. LOL

I plan on participating in NaNoWriMo for the seventh year in a row. Even if I only come up with nonsense, at least it's something. Who knows, it might kick-start my creative juices. One can always hope anyway.

With my lack of energy, I'll be posting this over on PlotMo as well.

Amy, According to your friendly neighbourhood search engine, the fix is as follows:

I've got a few requests on how i fixed this so despite it being some time since the fix here is what I did. (pardon me if I skip something, but it has been some time and i vaguely remember)

The first thing you must do is go to phpmyAdmin and find your wp database.
When you get all the tables to come, find the file titled "wp_options" and open that up.

Now that you are within that file make sure that the first line (1) which is the site url is set to wherever your site is.
Example: when my site was move from /wordpress to the root, i changed the table from

www.thenynightlife.com/wordpress to www.thenynightlife.com

once that is done. Check your site to see if you can now login...sitename/wp-admin and log in.
once inside the dashboard go to settings>general>and edit both urls there to match your phpmyAdmin one.

BTW some pictures,posts, videos etc...may have the old directory in the url so i recommend using search & replace plugin to edit the structure completely.
