Just to clear up any potential misunderstandings with new members:
Arrow of Eloquence (AoE) and the Pro-WriMo movement really came from the idea of smart, creative people who are often picked on for their intelligence or abilities. It's a very common occurrence. Some people turn to drugs, excessive drinking or any other kind of dangerous path to dull the impact and escape the pain.
But what if, instead of running from your abilities, you ran to them. What if being creative was in and of itself a kind of drug? Repo! did it with surgery, so why not do it with writing?
I've always enjoyed changing my perception of things or thinking about them in a different way than I had before. I hope you enjoy it too.
The board is, in effect, it's own world where this 'creative drug' idea is basically fact. (This should explain why it sometimes seems as though we're talking about drugs or something similar, particularly in the 'NaNoLand' thread. It is important to note that we in no way encourage or condone such actions. Any references are strictly in the spirit of the board.)
Your reference can be anything. It can be something positive (which I would hope is the case) or it can be something you once struggled with. Maybe you hope to project that positive feeling you once had from it onto a more healthy experience so as to move away from it. We welcome people from all walks of life.
That said, I do hope you enjoy a little different way of seeing things. Don't take things too seriously here. Just relax and have fun.
