For some of us, this was the first taste of 'the big one', the Writing Month that isn't quite like any other. It's a city rather than a community, a glass vial of insanity where all the others are the merest sprinkling. It's NaNoWriMo, the beginning of the addiction for so many people.
So, whether it was your first NaNoWriMo or your thirteenth, gather here and share your experience. How did the month go for you? Was it fun? Did you like your story? Hate it? Have you hidden it somewhere and swear you'll never read it again?
That last one is me. Here's my experience with the glass vial of insanity:
I wrote 75k and finished the story, so I guess I'll call it a good month. I might figure out what to say about the rest when I recover from discovering just how scary I can make a murder scene. If you follow me on Twitter, you may have caught a comment about that scene. I'm not kidding when I say this: when I finally work up the courage to read what I wrote during November, it's going to be in broad daylight and I will not have my back to a window.
Okay, so the month went well, I'm scared stiff of my story... Did I have fun? Looking back on it, I can remember a lot of pain and a lot of "WTH? I thought this was nearly summer!" as I pulled on another jumper and a pair of gloves. There was also a fair whack of sheer panic at what seemed to be turning up on the page. Like that murder scene - about half the time it really sounds like the MC was doing... well, something else.
Probably one of the best death scenes I've ever written, though.

My Nano novel for me turned from Scifi erotic GLBTQ to romance GLBTQ with some scif stuff in it. It was alright for me though i plan on writing another scifi onenot GLBTQ or maybe an YA next year in November.

This was my first official NaNo and it went well. I did find though that the sheer numbers of people on the forums really intimidated me. I didn't feel at home there although I did find some new writing buddies and I'm pleased about that. The book went well and I'm pretty happy about how it turned out, considering I blew it out in 13 days! Reading it now it's more coherent than I thought it would be. Of course, like any first draft it needs work, but I was really cranking. Which is probably why I am completely out of steam now.

How did my NaNoWriMo 2011 go? Well, it was my sixth NaNo, and my fourth win. I managed to crank out 58k words after a very late start. Too bad it was 58k of garbage. LOL Which is why I'm turning the whole mess over to the viking guy to deal with. Okay, viking guy, it's all yours. I'm going to try to find the time to do some actual plotting and planning for my next WiP. Starting up a new forum (a new site for NaNoFiMo since the old one was being overrun with spammers) was probably not the smartest thing I could do. Oh well. I have a great second-in-command. You might recognize her from here. LOL Right, Siana? If you're interested in checking out the new FiMo, you're welcome to come over and join the madness fun. nanofimo.proboards.com

This NaNoWriMo was my first, and I suppose it went well. I won, anyhow, with 68K words. The story isn't finished, however, and that's why I'm over at the NaNoFiMo site. Hopefully, it'll be done before January. I actually was intimidated by the number of people at first, but I found a place to belong and made a lot of friends in the end. The community over there is actually pretty amazing; everybody that I spoke to was very nice. Of course, I avoided the flame wars like I would an angry fire drake, so no one really had much of a reason to be mean to me. I'm not quite sure what to think of my story right now. I love the plot itself, and I love the characters, but my writing leaves much to be desired. If I could edit it into decent shape, then I might love it. Maybe. I'm pretty uncertain and insecure about it right now. I know that as soon as I finish it, it's going into a dark corner where I shall not touch it or think of it for at least a month. Then I shall drag it out and read it and see what I think about it. Anyway, I really loved this first NaNoWriMo and I'll definitely be doing it again next year if at all possible! ^_^

NaNo 2011 was my second NaNo. :-) I got about 70k words written in that time, so I suppose I won, but the story itself got scrapped. I am an incurable pantser, and that is basically why it completely and utterly failed. I am going to salvage the characters, though, and just start rewriting it...
...once i figure out what the damn plot is!
That bunny is still nibbling me. Hopefully I can give it a revamp once I finish the novel I'm working on now.

I've written around a million words on my 'trilogy' (which each book should become a trilogy in itself), and I still have no idea what the plot is. LOL People who've read my rough draft have loved it and can't wait for me to give them the next part to read. I just wish one of them will tell me what my blasted plot is! ROFLOL
