Assuming all goes well, I'm planning on archiving 2013 during the final week of this month. 2014 stuff might start popping up before then, though. If anyone has any requests/suggestions, this is the place to post them.

Oh - looks like we're going to be upgraded in the next few weeks. It's entirely possible that I'll slack off and leave the archiving etc. until after that. Watch this space.
Actually, just keep a casual eye on the space immediately below this space. It's not like I'm going to sneakily hide the news by editing the same post over and over again or anything.

Space. The final frontier. These are the writings of the Fanship Eloquence. Its ineffable mission: to explore strange new minds, to seek out new plots and new distractions, to boldly angst where no one has angsted before.
Deck the posts with tons of lol'ing, trollololol-ol-olol-olol. 'Tis the season to be trolling, trollololol-ol-olol-olol...
Ahem. *Puts on serious hat.*
Now, PlotMo focuses mostly on wrestling with Plot Hydras, with its related series of ongoing story development challenges. Maybe we could have more set wrimo (or at least longer than a day) challenges here (set meaning ones where everyone does them at the same time), especially for those quiet months where there is no competition, so there's always something to do. I guess, my thought is that PlotMo tends to make writing goals an afterthought, but some people just need a writing goal, while others need more plot help. That way, we have both year-long writing and year-long plotting hangouts, and people can flock wherever is most comfortable for them.
(Well, I suppose WriYe counts as a year-long writing place, but that place, though still smaller than NaNo, is still big enough that threads tend to get lost, and people don't really talk.)

*grabs thinking hat* *falls asleep instead*
But seriously, you could be onto something.
Slightly off-topic, but why don't the people on WriYe ever talk? Every year it starts out full of shouty NaNo people and a couple of months in, it's lurker central.

Off topic: I think it's because once you get beyond the off topic games and stuff, there's not much else to talk about, unless people are willing to discuss their novels. Not everyone wants to share thenitty gritty. Thing is, the PPTs on WriYe feel more...serious. I certainly couldn't spam Rainbow Roy and Tom Hiddleston there, nor could I angst out several D-8) filled Henry dialogues a day. I quit WriYe because I felt like I was shouting into a void. I tend to stick around in places where I can talk regularly with people, and get to know their stories, and vice versa.
On topic: I'm sure there must be more people out there like us who would like something more...interactive than a series of challenges where you update a count everyday.

I'm sure there must be more people out there like us... Let the hunt begin! Edit: Speaking of 2014, I just realised it needs a name. 2011 was the Year of Writing a Damn Lot, 2012 was the Year of Hypergraphia and 2013 is the Rise of the YeSpiMad (Year of the Spiral into Madness). So, 2014...

I had a sudden weird thought last night that went something like this:
If I'm going to maintain (and attempt to expand) this site, the most logical 2014 approach is one that provides me with maximum 'bang for your buck' in the butt-kicking department. Therefore, a purely wordcount-based format isn't the ideal thing. A simple 500k goal for the year isn't going to dig me out from under my bunnies, because I always know I can get enough words with excessive planning and brainstorming. That just sends me around in narrative circles, though.
What I really need is a much more restrictive wordcount goal. Basically, the only words that would count towards the goal would be words that either are or could be part of a short story/novella/novel. No planning, brainstorming, character sketches, summaries, creative non-fiction, homework, forum/blog posts or... well, nothing except actual prose, I guess.
Although I'd probably leave whether or not to count poetry/song lyrics and zero drafts/phase outlines up to the individual participant. For the latter, it probably comes down to whether you're more comfortable calling it part of planning or part of writing.
So, maximum butt-kick. A place on the internet where I have to admit exactly how many words of fiction I've written.

Well. Good luck with that. That approach has never worked for me. It's a surefire way to switch on the editor, send me straight into the Chasm of Despair, as I start nitpicking everything I write. >_>

*is confused*
That's basically just the NaNoWriMo rules, only with allowance for an unspecified number of projects.

Because NaNoWriMo still allows you to count planning words, and useless words...song lyrics, wandering dialogue, etc. That's how I win. Ask me to count only things that move the plot forward, and I hit a wall. :-P
Anyway, sounds like a good idea for AoE. :-)
