Most of us are participating in Milwordy and/or WriYe this year, so we have an overall wordcount goal for the year. What's your goal? Post it here and keep us up to date on your progress as the months go by. No formal signup for this one - just think of it as a friendly place to talk about how you're going with the challenge. Talk about your goal, whether you're ahead or behind, whether you think you were insane to sign up for x words and so on.

I'm going for 500k and planning to focus a lot more on editing/rewriting than I have the last couple of years.

I am planning on writing 1,000,000 words in the new year. I realize it's a lot, but I'm looking forward to trying!

My goal for WriYe is 500,000 words. This is probably a more realistic goal than last year, when I shot for a million, and then crashed in defeat by May. Also, I'm less likely to injure myself this way.

I knew we had a thread for this around here somewhere. I was planning on reviving it every month or so and checking in on everyone. January to August counts as 'or so', right? So, a couple of questions: 1) How are you going with your year-round goal?2) Anything the friendly people of Arrow of Eloquence can do to help? For example, emotional support, critiques/friendly comments on pieces of writing, assistance with projects e.g. maintenance of other forums (fora?), advice, crazy suggestions...----------- 1) I've written 476,283 words so far this year. Best month was January, which I guess makes sense because that's summer and I can't go outside during daylight hours, so I write a lot more. Worst month was May, for reasons I can't actually remember. Going well, I guess. One thing I can always do is make words. 2) Well, if anyone wants to write during September, there's a very quiet forum known as SeptNoWrimo... In all seriousness, though, I've been taking a long hard look at what's inside of my head and I've come to the conclusion that the only way to get rid of my mental block is to blast a hole right through it. Since I have a fair idea what's on the other side, that's a very scary notion. Writer's block - the thing you put up when you're too scared to mine your subconscious for things to put in your writing. So anyway, I'm going to write something dark and emotionally intense. Expect doom and gloom in my posts. Patience and emotional support would be wonderful... but I guess I already get plenty of that. You guys are awesome .

Sadly I've had to drop out of Milwordy. I really, honestly tried and didn't want to drop out. But shooting for 3,334 words per day for a year really wasn't helping my productivity at all. It just killed it. :/ Nonetheless I still, occasionally participate in monthly wrimos. I should probably hop on over to SeptNoWriMo...even though I'm busy as hell right now with dance classes and homeschool. >_<

1) I completely lost track of how much I've written. Then again, I realized also that it's not about the number of words, but about finishing something. That's my new goal for the year. So in terms of finishing...not good at all. Guess I have four months to figure out what I'm doing.
2) I'm in for September! :-) As for what AoE can do -- keep up the insanity! Weird challenges, and insane conversation! That's the best muse fuel there is. :-) I'm currently trying really hard to finish the first book of Dark Arcana, and I'm terrified. There will be meltdowns. Emotional support would be nice, but Siana's already said -- I already get that! (I also say you guys are awesome. :-D)

So where do we dig up this motivational insanity?
I have a theory that there might be a vein of it running along one of the darker tunnels of the Chasm of Despair. It's kind of like mining for gold - you go looking for awesomeness and insanity, but mostly dig up gloom.

Digging for motivational insanity is a very, very dangerous thing.... but the rewards are amazing.
1) I have almost 200k for this year. That's decent considering the goal for this year is 300k. I'm getting there ^^
2) I'm in for September. I go back to school that month though so the actual goal might have to be a little lower than I'd really like...
Just keep doing what you're all doing already ^^ I'll be back in school soon (and trying to get a company ready for launch) so expect my being stressed and tired and annoyed a lot in posts. If/when that happens, just hand me a blanket and some good, dark chocolate - I'll be okay XD

It's kind of like mining for gold - you go looking for awesomeness and insanity, but mostly dig up gloom. Everyone keep doing what they're doing. :-) And yes, the Chasm of Despair does indeed have Misery Lake Lake, which is fed by the Gloom River, which lies upon the Doom Shores. Miners often hit one of its tributaries, or occasionally where one of its tributaries were once, but now there is nothing left but a deposit of Doom Rock, sometimes containing the perfectly preserved remains of an asphyxiated plot bunny that never was. WHY is my world building better when I do it for a forum post, than when I try to do it for my actual stories?
